Think of a scenario: it’s Monday morning, you have an important meeting to attend, and when you check your laundry, your formals are still wet. It will surely make the Monday blues worse!
In the hustle-bustle of modern times, one cannot rely on the weather to dry their clothes. So, having a dryer has become essential. But, as a dryer saves so much time, sometimes when it stops functioning, our daily life gets affected.
Talking about dryers, we see different brands available in the market, but Samsung’s dryer is used in most households.
However, sometimes there’s a problem with the Samsung dryer, not heating. The dryer runs, but it does not heat enough to dry the clothes. Instead, it blows cold air.
The Samsung dryer must produce heat; if you notice cold air coming out, then the dryer is most probably damaged. The problem can be in the heating coil, thermostat, electrical system, flame sensor, or other components.
Reasons why your Samsung Dryer is not heating
There can be several reasons for The Samsung Dryer, not heating:
1. A problem in the Vent line
One of the most common causes of the dryer not working fine is the blockage of the vent line. We use the dryer regularly but neglect the cleaning part. That results in poor ventilation, and the lint filters get clogged.
Instead of going outside when the water moves in the vent line, you certainly have a blocked vent. You will also realize that the lint filter is clogged when you experience a foul smell coming out of the dryer.
2. Thermostat
A bad thermostat can be the reason behind the failure of the drying cycle. It balances the temperature of the air inside your dryer drum. It requires multiple thermostats in a dryer to maintain the required temperature. The high limit thermostat doesn’t allow the dryer to overheat.
The high limit thermostat also ensures that the heater turns on and off frequently as needed. The dryer depends on a cycling thermostat, for that matter. The continuous use of a cycling thermostat leads to its failure over some time.
3. Incorrect Voltage
Sometimes the Samsung dryers run but don’t heat properly due to low voltage. The dryer needs a power supply of 208V/240V to run. If you miss even the 120V leg, the electric dryer will run but not blow hot air.
You do not face such a problem with a gas dryer, but the Samsung model is also more effective.
4. Thermal fuse
The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to prevent the dryer from catching fire, as when the temperature spikes, the thermal fuse burns itself.
Many dryers stop operating if there’s any problem with the thermal fuse. On some models, the dryer continues operating, and its drum turns, but the heating element does not operate.
In the case of a newer model, the dryer stops functioning if the thermal fuse is blown, and such a situation occurs when the dryer’s temperature exceeds a certain level.
5. Heating element
Another reason the Samsung dryer does not heat adequately is because it might have a faulty heating element. The air drum remains warm due to the heating element.
At times the dryer gets overheated, which causes the motor to stop working temporarily; the motor is the one that keeps turning the air drum. Thus, the burnt heating element prevents the Samsung dryer from heating properly.
The overheating problem mainly occurs in newer dryers.
Methods to fix Samsung dryer not heating
Samsung Dryer not heating is a headache, but there are many ways to solve the problem. Let us discuss some of the ways to fix the Samsung heating issue.
#1 Clean the vent lines.
There can be several reasons for your dryer’s heating issues, but before you opt for some professional help, examine the dryer by yourself first.
You have a clogged air vent line if the water stays in the vent instead of coming out. Also, if you experience any unpleasant smell coming out of the dryer, there is a blockage in the vent line. These are the few ways of finding out that your dryer has a clogged vent line.
There’s a straightforward solution to it. First, check the lint filter and clean the vent lines. Then, clean the dust and small particles present in line with the help of the admittance valve; the pressure will clean the vent nicely.
And to prevent it from happening again in the future, make sure that you clean the dryer air vent hose once a year.
#2 Replace the thermostat
Check thermostats and their internal wiring issues once you have tried other possible ways to fix the heating problem. A continuity test can help you determine if the thermostat problem is.
They are present behind the rear panel of the dryer. The bad thermostat becomes incapable of controlling the temperature, so the air in the dryer’s drum doesn’t heat.
Read the user manual carefully and replace the thermostat. Pay attention that you should disconnect the power supply before performing any such activities. Next, you need to remove the electrical connector, put the new thermostat in, and then screw it.
Today we have no option but to replace it. However, the older models had a reset button on the control panel.
#3 Proper voltage
If the dryer doesn’t get the proper incoming power, it won’t heat.
The dryer must get 120 volt AC to operate smoothly. So always observe the fuse box. Even if one of the fuses stops functioning, the dryer may continue running, but it will not heat. Hence, the wet clothes will not dry.
To figure out if the problem lies in the voltage, turn off the circuit breaker and then turn it back on; now, see if the dryer starts heating again. The circuit breaker is the thing that supplies power to the dryer.
The circuit breaker should have the correct amperage. As per the model, you can check the installation for the required amperage.
#4 Fix the thermal fuse
Sometimes the Samsung dryers do not work correctly if there is a problem with the thermal cut-off fuse.
The fuse burns itself out when the temperature is too high to protect the dryer from fire, as sensed by the flame sensor. There is no chance that we can repair the thermal fuse. You will have to get a new fuse instead.
#5 Replace the Burnt heating element
A dryer does not function properly if there’s a faulty heating element. In such a case, the Samsung dryer runs, but it will not heat.
Take out the dryer’s heating element from the housing and test it by using an ohmmeter on the two leads; you’ll find out if the heating element’s components are causing the dryer not to heat.
Still, if the dryer is not heating, you can replace the old Samsung dryer heating element with the new one. Go through the user manual and put everything back together once you finish checking.
#6 Control board
Try replacing the main control board once you have tried every possible way to fix the dryer not heating and observed all electrical components, but there is still no heat. The Control Board is considered the brain of the dryer; once it becomes defective, the whole dryer stops functioning.
Testing a control board is challenging, so consider replacing the board with a new one. Make sure you have the correct model number for the proper replacement.
