Now that you’ve had one, you are trying to locate the whereabouts of its’ network security key. If that’s the issue, you’ve bumped into the right place! We’ll help you find the network security key in the most convenient way possible. Let’s dig in…

What is a Network security key on the Xfinity router?

A network security key can also be called an Internet security key. Network Security Key is also referred to as a wireless network password or a wireless security key password. You can think of it as a security protocol. You can use a network password to share the access point with your device.

The network security key allows your wi-fi router to secure a connection with your device. You can thus enjoy a stable and secure Internet connection. Now, you must be wondering where I find my network security key on my wireless router! Don’t worry because locating your network security key is extremely simple. It is present in the router itself.

This article will guide you on how to find your network security key easily on your router to enjoy a constant wi-fi network. If you are clueless about how to access your network security key to connect your wireless network router for accessing the Internet, you have landed on the right page. We are here at your rescue to tell you all that you need to know about getting your network security key without much hassle.

So, why wait when you have everything you need to know about your new router’s wireless network security key! So sit back, relax, and take an enriching read to understand all about accessing your network security key. We are sure you will find it helpful and you will be able to connect your wireless network router with your device smoothly with the help of the security key.

Are WiFi Passwords similar to Network Security Keys?

Network security keys are not the same as the Wireless network password. We have discussed here to find the network security keys. However, the process of finding the WiFi password is different.

To find the WiFi password, you have to go to the System tray on the Windows Task Bar. When you click on the Wireless network icon, it will show the Wireless network name. Then right-click on the wireless network name and open the Wireless properties. In the Wireless properties Security tab, you get the password.

Where is my Network Security Key located?

Right off the bat, the Network security key for your Xfinity router is located in a secured Comcast database and not physically at the back of your router. You were provided with a six-digit PIN if you remember the first time setting up your Xfinity router. You’ve used that PIN to log in to your account.

This process may vary a little on MAC & different versions of Windows- but not by much. For the sake of convenience, let’s assume that you’re using Windows 10 OS, and the process we are about to mention below to find the network security key is based on the same OS-

A step-by-step guide to FIND my network security key:

Step 1

First things first, head on to your Explorer browser and visit https://192.168.100.1
It will take you to the login page of your Xfinity router (Comcast’s ISP Gateway)

Step 2

Then, you will be asked for a username and password. Enter ‘cableguys’ for the username and ‘password’ for the wireless security key password field (remember to remove the quotes).

Step 3

In this step to find the security key, you will receive a prompt for changing your wi-fi password. Please do so by entering a new 6-digit PIN for your wi-fi password convenient for you to remember. Note that this is only helpful if you decide to access your router settings outside of your home network. However, if you plan to stick to the home network to access the same, it isn’t needed, but we recommend you do so.

Step 4

If you’re accessing the wireless modem for the first time, we suggest you rename the device. This helps anyone using a computer or a laptop identify the same on their network. To do this, click on the status located at the top of the page. Then, click on the Network tab and then on advanced.

Step 5

If you’re opening your modem for the first time, there will be 2 options available to you- DHCP and Static IP. To keep it simple, we recommend you choose the DHCP option. DHCP is easier to set up later when configuring various devices like your android phone, computer, router, etc. Now, change the default modem name ‘Xfinity wifi’ to anything else.

Step 6

Then, click on save settings and head back to status (on the top of the page). Then, scroll down and try to locate the Wireless settings option. Then, you see an ENABLE WIRELESS option on the right side of the page; use the toggle switch to turn it off.

Step 7

Under the Wireless Security option, you can now finally find the Network security key visible. Depending on the model of your XFi router, the network security key can be either labeled as a WPA2 key or a WPA key. No matter how it is named that is your default wireless network key. Highlight the entire key with your mouse, then right-click and copy it.

Step 8

Now you have to head back to the login page again. Then, click on the My Network option between the Home & Change Mode options.

Step 9

Now, you will be able to view a field that says Network security key. Click on that link, and it takes you to a new window. Once you’re in the new window, it will ask you for the network security key and a warning of ‘No Internet connection’. Click on Yes.

Step 10

For the last step to find the security key, you have to determine whether you had successfully entered the six-digit PIN when the login page was previously displayed. If so, and still it leads you to a “Page not found” error along with an IP 192.168.0.1 or something similar, you’re not using a Comcast’s Xfinity router.

Wrap up

This was our take on guiding you about locating your wireless network security key on your router for stable and strong network connections while you work. We have compiled all the required information for you to check out. In addition, we have touched upon what a network key is, where you can find it, and how you can do so.

Read the steps religiously, implement them as mentioned, and get ready to enjoy hassle-free Internet services on your router. Then, you are all set to relieve yourself from the troubles of finding your network security key!
