Smart TVs may be a fairly known technology, but many operational TVs are still not “Smart“, yet. In such cases, the only method to cast content or screen mirror to a TV screen remains through an additional device connected to the TV that supports screen mirroring. And if you happen to have a PS4 but not a Smart TV and wondering if you will be able to mirror to PS4, you have clicked on the right link.
Now, there’s good news and there’s bad news. The good news is that you will be able to stream your Android content on PS4 and then to a big screen in a few simple steps. The bad news is that the PS4 natively doesn’t support mirroring; however, there are several options (read, Apps) available that let you mirror Android or iOS devices’ screens on PS4.
This article will tell you about not all, but the best apps that let you cast your phone content to PS4. Please note that irrespective of the operating system, these methods work for both Android as well as iOS devices. You can connect your iPhone as well as your iPad. So we have got both Android users and well as iOS users covered.
Methods to Cast Screen to PS4
- Through Plex app
- Through iMediaShare app
- Alternate Media Streaming apps: PlayStation App & PS4 Second Screen app
- Mirror phone to PS4 through browser
Now let me walk you through these methods one at a time. You can try these methods beginning with the first one and stop whenever you are satisfied with the results.
Note: Connecting both PS4 and your mobile device (whether Android device or iOS) to the same WiFi network is recommended. Connecting both the devices to the same network will facilitate the screen mirroring to the PS4 process.
#1 – Mirror Screen to PS4 with Plex app
Plex is a service that lets its users access their whole digital library across multiple compatible devices. The device could be a PC, Android, iOS, and other devices. And the best part about this service is that it doesn’t require you to transfer files from one device to another. The only requirement is that the devices should be connected to the same wi-fi network.
How to mirror Android phone screen to PS4 using Plex
Let us look at the steps required to cast the Android screen or iPhone screen to PS4.
Step 1: If you do not have a Plex account already, the first for you to do would be to go ahead and create one. To create an account on Plex, you can go to the Plex website and create a free account using the Sign-up option. Make sure to remember the login credentials; the username/email id and the password.
Step 2: Next up, fire up your PS4. When the PS4 is turned on, go ahead and open the PlayStation Store on it. Go to the Apps section in the store interface, then search for Plex through the search bar.
Step 3: Once the installation process is complete, go ahead and launch the Plex app on your PS4. You can find the Plex app in the TV & Video section.
Step 4: When the Plex app opens, go ahead and select the Sign-in option.
Step 5: On the sign-in page, you will get a link. Open the link and the login page will launch through the browser.
Step 6: In the browser, go ahead and log in with your credentials. Then, you will get a login code number on the browser to add the device.
Step 7: Now, enter the code on the Plex apps sign-in page on your PS4. This will successfully log your account into Plex on your PS4.
Step 8: Go to your Android or iOS device and install the Plex app on it. Once installed, go ahead and log in to your account. Now, remember to select the Stay in trial mode option and not opt for Plex pass.
Step 9: On the Plex app on your Android phone or iPhone, tap on its Menu icon, then select the Settings option.
Step 10: In the Settings menu, go to System > Advertiser Server > Show camera roll media > Network Discovery. Grant Permission when asked.
Step 11: After a successful setup, go back to Plex on your Playstation 4. Now, you will be able to see your mobile device on the app. Select it to access the media folders on your mobile device and stream video, music, and other content directly from your phone’s library.
#2 – Mirror Screen to PS4 with iMediaShare
iMediaShare is another service that you can make use of to mirror your phone to PS4. Here’s how:
Now, the basic premise of screen share remains the same as the Plex Media Server. And we will be discussing the steps briefly.
Begin with connecting your PS4 and the smartphone to the same wireless network. Then, go ahead and install the iMediaShare app on both devices.
Launch the iMediaShare app on your phone and select the content you would like to share on the PS$ wireless display. This will now ask you to select a screen. From the list of devices, select PS4 and enjoy the content on the PS4.
#3- Alternate Media Streaming Apps
Alternatively, you can also give Playstation app or the PS4 Second Screen app.
Both these apps work on the same premise as Plex or iMediaShare, and if any of the above two methods fail, give these apps a try. Both the Playstation app and Second Screen app are free to use.
#4 – Mirror phone to PS4 through browser
Another great option that you can share your phone screen as is to a PS4 (not share media) is through the PS4 web browser.
On your PS4, go ahead and launch the browser.
In the browser address bar, type: https://screenmirroring.app/receiver
Once the webpage is open, you will see a QR code.
Go to your Android or iPhone, and download the Screen Mirroring Pro App. Please note that the app is not free but paid (thus the last place in the list).
Scan the QR code on the browser through the app, and grant necessary permissions.
Next, go ahead and select the Start Broadcast option, and voila, you will be able to successfully set up mirroring on your PS4.
